Training Philosophy

I believe in a balanced approach to dog training. Now, before you panic, there are a lot of misconceptions about balanced dog training. Let’s be clear: balanced dog training should not be cruel and it should not be all about punishment. If you see a trainer who only uses harsh punishments with no praise or rewards, they are not balanced! My balanced approach to dog training uses a variety of training tools: treats, verbal praise, toys, physical affection, slip leashes, pinch collars, prong collars, and e-collars. Positive reinforcement is the foundation of all of my training and any additional tools used varies from dog to dog and depends on the comfort level of the handler.

At the end of the day, I believe in empowering owners to become strong, confident leaders; which is what every pup needs in order to be successful!

My philosophy is to always train the dog that is in front of me. What works for one dog may not work for another. I will work with you to find what works best for you and your pup.

With repetition and consistency, our canines can learn which behaviours and responses are desirable and which are not. With patience, leadership, and a whole lot of love, our pups can learn to cope in the world around them.

[Kona, my own reactive pup, would not be where she is today if it weren’t for balanced dog training!]
